A new dimension of cello playing: the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, who gave their debut in Tokyo, not Berlin, and who have enjoyed the adoration of a global fan club ever since. In brilliant arrangements, the 1978–2010 albums document all the facets of the instrument’s technical range in breathtaking and sensuous cello works from Bach to the Beatles, from film hits to chansons and jazz, and from South American music to the avant-garde style of the likes of Iannis Xenakis, who wrote original compositions that are tailor-made for the ensemble’s virtuoso fingers. This box contains eight bestseller albums brought together in this format for the first time.

Faulty CD in the set so no 5 star review
Having lost vinyl and cassette copies of these recordings years ago it was a real bonus to get this box set which includes recordings I have never heard.CD8 - Die 12 Cellisten der Berliner Philharmoniker - Vol 1 (as it is titled on the back of the sleeve) is a flawed recording. Almost every track, either intermittent or in full, is masked by some sort of static interference. All the other discs are exactly as I would have expected. First class. The question now is, do I return the whole box or just the faulty CD?Many thanks for your kind attention.PH.

Cello arrangements of orchestral favourites
Still working my way through these 8 CDs I had for Christmas but all so far are beautiful interpretations. Strongly recommended!
