All three films in the K-9 franchise in which James Belushi and an Alsatian solve crimes galore. In 'K-9' (1998) an unorthodox narcotics cop Dooley (Belushi) alienates his human partners to such an extent that the only police employee willing to team up with him is Jerry Lee - a highly-trained German Shepherd. The canine turns out to have crime-busting ideas of its own, and the two strike up an unlikely partnership, setting out to expose the brains behind a $50 million drug deal. 'K-9 II' (1999) is the sequel and sees Dooley and Jerry Lee continuing their fight against crime, but ten years along the line, the years are beginning to catch up with them. After they fail to prevent a number of attacks made by a mad gunman, Dooley and Jerry Lee are partnered with the no-nonsense Detective Welles (Christine Tucci) and her fearless pet Doberman Zeus. What follows is a mass of crazy dog tricks, comic banter, and crimebusting action. Finally, in 'K-9 P.I.'(2002), the third instalment Dooley and Jerry Lee plan to hand in their badges and continue their fight against crime as private detectives. When they interrupt a computer company robbery on their final night as official police officers, it leads to all kinds of trouble. It seems Jerry Lee has managed to swallow a microchip discarded by the thieves, and this provides the crimebusting duo with the vital first clue in their attempts to unravel the mystery.
