Daphne odora Aureomarginata - This is one of our favourite garden plants as it is one of the first scented flowering plants to flower in early Spring. The scent is strong and lily-like and with its evergreen leaves is a perfect garden plant. When mature it is not detrimental to snip the odd piece off and bring inside to bring the scent inside to fill the house of this magical lily-like scent. Or can be enjoyed in the house (away from radiators / heaters) and placed outdoors after flowering has finished. Best planted near the house or on the pathway to the house to enjoy the fragrance of the flowers. Flowering time: January to March (depending on weather) Pale pink flowers open from purple-pink buds, dark green leaves with yellow margins. Garden care: Keep pruning to a minimum since the plant is susceptible to die-back. Where necessary after flowering, very lightly trim to remove misplaced branches and to maintain a compact habit. Soil: moderately fertile, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Resents transplanting. Rate of growth: slow-growing. Hardiness: Hardy when planted in the ground and mulched annually. Not hardy if container grown, therefore bring inside / protect. Eventual Height: 1.5m Eventual Spread: 1.5m in 8-10 years. Suggested Plant Uses: City / Courtyard Gardens, Cottage / Informal Garden, Flowers Borders and Beds, Low Maintenance, Patio/Container Plants or Wall-side Borders. Notes: Once your order arrives do please de-box the Daphne and place in a frost free, light environment. On the inside of the Gift-wrap is a bag to hold-in any excess moisture. Do please keep the Daphne watered, this is possible by watering directly below the stem. Do not place near a heater or radiator. These plants are no longer in flower but are in active leaf growth.
