GMB GUT-29 Toyota Universal Joint is generally used to provide high torque transmission in limited space. Power transmitting drive shaft utilizing minimum space requirements connects the driving shaft to the driven shaft at an angle through the smooth mechanism of the universal joint. In order to achieve constant velocity at both ends the same working angle(A equal to B), the same plane(driving shaft equal to center shaft equal to the driven shaft), and the same phase (Yoke openings (forks) in the driving shaft and driven shaft shall face square on a straight line) shall be maintained. The universal joint consists of a spider(cross) and 4 grease-filled roller bearings. It can transmit large torque at low friction. Spider with journal pegs and bearing cases as outer ring were hot forged or cold formed and machined. They are later carburized in the furnace so that increased ruggedness and wear resistance is obtained. Parts are finally ground to designed size under severe tolerance. Oil seals, as well as dust covers, are also in use to protect the internal journal area from the intrusion of foreign material. A variety of grades and materials are selected to respond to extreme conditions such as very hot/very cold temperatures.
