Principle:- The presence of Bile salts, Sodium citrate and Brilliant green inhibit the gram positive bacteria most of coliforms and limiting Proteus spp. and allowing the Salmonella spp. to grow. The sodium thiosulphate and the ferric citrate detect the H2S production giving black centered colonies of Salmonella spp. While the Shigella spp. does not produce H2S gas resulting in the formation of colorless colonies. The some of the Escherichia strains grow on the SS agar, giving pink to colorless. Proteose peptone provides all the essential amino acids and vitamins and other nutrients. Performance and Evaluation:- The expected performance of the medium is liable to use as per the direction on the label when stored at optimum conditions and within expiry date. Precautions to be taken:- These microbial media are intended for the in-vitro use only. All the handling, experiments, storage, and discarding should be performed with the help of trained and experienced technicians and as per the established guidelines. The material should be disposed only after proper serialization by autoclaving.
