General Herb Information - Boneset - Thoroughwort, Purple Boneset ( Eupatorium perfoliatum ). Joe-Pye Weed ( E. purpureum ). - Propagation: By seed sown as soon as ripe in early autumn; by root division in spring. - Nature of Plant: The 4-foot-high perennial boneset with white, fluffy flower heads is a striking contrast with colorful flowers in borders; useful for flower arrangements. Fragrant, purple boneset is effective in flower arrangements and in borders. The leaf arrangement of both plants is interesting. - Spacing of Mature Plants: 12 inches. - Cultural Requirements: Both like light, moist, rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot for luxuriant growth and beautiful terminal clusters of flowers, but either will grow well in almost any soil or location; protect with a straw mulch. - Uses (Both varieties have same uses.) - Leaf and Flowering Top: (Health) Gentle laxative, emetic and purgative in large doses, used in - Helps support liver insufficiencies; Potential body stimulant; Can benefit those suffering from a cold or coughs, colds - Hot tea brewing method: Bring freshly drawn cold water to a rolling boil.
