not your average Marvel show
This is more than just a story being told. If you like Marvel for the big action stuff, you won't find much here. This is better but requires effort on the viewers side to really appreciate it. E.g. in the psychiatrists. Two people sitting opposite each other. Usually symmetrical but here the lamp shade - although the same type and colour is longer. One extra magazine on the doctors side. Rectangles and circles everywhere. Quality is in the details and this is quality. It should be in an art museum. It all adds to the story, the main character having two minds. The colours are fantastic too and used to great effect. Interview romm again almost symmetry but the two similar designed lights showing different colours. The usual today with action sequences is the lights go out, out come the narrow beam torches x files style and you don't get to see the scary bits. Cheap and nasty cop out for untalented directors. Here the female character is chased by the monster in a white room lit in white. Much better but more effort to do and keep the scariness. Other chaos parts lit in red.For these reasons I doubt if the show will be a success. High brow fantastic entertainment that plays with alternative realities - same scenes from different perspectives - and playing around with time really gets across schizophrenia but only if you can follow it.I worry that it will either be dumbed down or will do a Firefly and end prematurely. I hope not but don't see how this level of excellence can be retained without burnout or breakdown of the Director as this flies very close to schizophrenia and I hope no one gets burned.Get it while you can.

Dares to be different!
If you don't know anything about Legion, then I recommend watching the trailer first & checking whether this is your sort of thing. Because it's very quirky & most people will either love it or just not get it at all. I personally love it a lot, having re-watched it twice & regularly browse clips of it on YouTube.Apparently Legion (aka David) is an obscure X-Men character but this doesn't really have a super hero-ey feel & nor is any knowledge of the comics needed (I didn't have any & I love it!). David is confined to a mental institution & believes everyone who has told him that he is mad but he may also be the worlds' most powerful psychic. A lot of the action happens within David's own mind & at first it's unclear how much is real & even whether certain characters are actually exist or whether they're figments of his mind. On top of that, series creator Noah Hawley says the sets & costumes were designed with a '60's Tomorrow's World 'what the world will look like in the future' kind of vibe too. So it does get pretty trippy. But surprisingly in an age where more conventional series than this one often have ambiguous endings, all is actually explained by the end. This is an incredibly imaginative series on all levels. For example, one particularly memorable sequence is shot in the style of an old silent movie but apparently the cast weren't told this while it was being filmed, as it was only decided afterwards in post-production. And the cast really go for it too - Aubrey Plaza in particular dives head-first into the strangeness & seems to be having the most fun, ever! The acting is superb, there's a large helping of quirky humour, the sets, costume & scripts are divine. It's just perfect! Can't believe I'm saying this but I like Legion even more than Westworld & Game Of Thrones!

So good I bought it twice...
I'd already seen every episode but bought this to support the show.Aesthetically, it has something of the (British) Avengers and Prisoner TV shows and looks truly marvellous, set in an ambiguous time period which manages to be sartorially, stylistically and technologically reminiscent of the 1960s yet, at the same time, feeling somewhat futuristic.Similar to some of the wackier moments from those classic '60s TV shows, Legion frequently bends reality in ways which are often menacing, creating a good deal of tension and suspense and, in other moments, fun. Significant events are called back to many times as we peel back the layers and learn more about David's abilities and psychoses. The soundtrack is awesome and, aside from the great, original incidental music, classics such as Ravel's Bolero (Fauxlero - don't google this unless you like spoilers) sit beside the genius of Pink Floyd's Breathe, The Rolling Stones' She's A Rainbow or Radiohead's Daily Mail.Despite its comic-book superhero storyline, this is still very much an allegory for, or maybe even a love-letter to, schizophrenia and mania.Dan Stevens is perfectly impish, Rachel Keller is utterly adorable and Aubrey Plaza (the cynical intern from Parks and Recreation) gives us nothing short of a masterclass in chaotic villainy.I was really enjoying the show until Jemaine Clement's character was introduced - then it became, possibly, my favourite TV show ever.To anyone unsure about this show, my advice is to watch the pilot episode and if you're not beaming from ear to ear during the Bollywood sequence, it's probably not for you.
