GMT: Skies Above Britain Boardgame

This is a brilliantly designed game and it isn’t like other solitaire games I have played. It isn’t entirely intuitive, but learning the game is worth it, because it simulates the uncertainty and chaos of the Battle of Britain as well as the frustration of the early days and the fatigue as the campaign goes on.A common complaint with solitaire games is a lack of decision and player agency. I don’t think that applies here. You can indeed ‘press your luck’ or jockey for position at the risk of the enemy completing his bomber mission, but you also get to decide whether to RTB individual flights or whether you want to try and evade or turn fight with random 109s.The big decisions are whether you want to keep your best pilots up in the sky or if you want to try and get more experience out of your new guys. Warning: a lot of guys won’t make it very long, and there is suspense in the game for everyone who bails out.It’s controlled chaos of the best kind and it really makes you feel like you’re a part of a Spitfire or a Hurricane squadron in a months long battle. Best solitaire game in a single package.

In my experience, this is one of the best WW2 air to air battle games.
