Van Zyverden's Crocus Mixed produces brightly colored, glossy, deeply cupped petals that surround a vivid orange stamen. The cupped flowers are born on short stems above grass-like leaves. They are often the first color of spring. Crocus are easy annual to grow and a favorite of pollinators. Crocus are a cherished variety that everyone knows and loves. Crocus return year after year, providing a splash of color in garden beds, borders, lawns, under trees, among shrubs and in containers. Plant in a location with partial sun. Just dig, drop and you are done until spring! Van Zyverden Crocus Mix Dormant Flower Bulbs Partial Sun Multicolor Annual Perennial Dormant Bulbs Plant Crocus bulbs in the fall before the first frost hardens the soil. Dig a hole to the required depth. Place bulb in hole, pointed side up. Cover with soil and water thoroughly. Mulch in extreme climates. For container planting, bury the bulb three times as deep as the bulb is wide. In zones 6 and below, you will need to protect your bulb containers. Place them near the foundation of the house or other structure. In zones 3-5, place the container in an unheated garage or shed. After blooming, leave the bulbs in place so plants can clump or reseed. Divide only when containers or planting spaces become too crowded. Propagate in the fall by division after they have been chilled for four weeks in a moist medium. To ensure optimal results, allow adequate space, sunlight, plant at the appropriate depth, feed with a well balanced fertilizer, allowing the leaves to yellow/brown before removing. Crocus can be successfully grown in a lawn for a spring meadow effect. Hold off on mowing the lawn in spring until the Crocus foliage begins to die back.
