Description

Principle:- Peptone serves as the source of all essential nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, other trace factors which are essential for the growth of microbes. The lactose in it plays a crucial role for selection of lactose fermenting microbes. Moreover the combination of Bromo Cresol Purple and the bile salts inhibits the Gram-positive bacteria. Use:- Recommended for selective isolation and differentiation of Lactose fermenting and Lactose non-fermenting enteric bacteria from water, sewage etc. Specifically the coliforms; E coli by using Durham’s tube for detection of gas production. The MacConkey Broth is recommended for the use in microbial examination of water samples, milk and dairy products, and recommended by many regulatory bodies such as British Pharmacopeia.
