Madagascan music legend Andriamalalaharijaona Samoela (a.k.a. Sammy) formed Tarika Sammy (Sammy s Band) band in the early 80s, and over the next twenty years the group became one of the island s most successful musical exports. Enticed back in to the studio by the German label Network, Sammy founded a new band for these recordings - Samy Izy - to pay homage to Madagascar s roots music. Sammy also invited top-ranking guests artists including flautist Rageroge, the Tana Gospel Choir and, reviving an almost forgotten tradition, the nine-piece wind orchestra Ambodirana Centre. Tsara Madagasikara is another major contribution to the music of Madagascar.
