Combining Hakuichi’s brilliant skills in producing gold leafs with exquisite brilliance and three-dimensional looking designs, and fountain pen manufacturer Platinum with its more than 90 years history of making fountain pens, through trial-and-error and using material such as refined gold leafs, a fountain pen series fascinatingly displaying Japan’s beautiful four seasons has been realized. Unlike gold leafs used in art pieces, it is difficult to put gold leafs on durable items with curved surfaces such as writing instruments because it needs to withstand all the wear-and-tear from handling, writing, and storing. It was only with the deep experience of the two companies and their mutual sharing of technical information that they were able to achieve the technology required to put durable decorations on the surface. The leaf itself requires an eight-step manufacturing process, and the 0.1μm thick gold leaf is easily damaged by slight breezes or static electricity, and the entire process to put this thin gold leaf onto a fountain pen and furthermore make it durable is finally completed after about one and a half years since conceptualization. Please enjoy this art piece fountain pen in your hands, lovingly crafted with gold leaves handmade by artisans and attached to the pen by the hands of specialists.
