Triple bill of adventure films. 'Spider-Man' (2002) is the blockbuster movie adaptation of the Marvel comic strip. When high-school student Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is bitten by a genetically-altered spider while on a visit to a scientific institute, he soon begins to experience unusual side-effects - such as increased strength, enhanced wall-climbing skills, and the ability to spin webs out of his wrists. Peter first attempts to make use of these skills to impress girl-next-door Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), but after his Uncle Ben is killed in an armed robbery, he is compelled to work for the greater good and reinvents himself as Spider-Man, the enemy of criminals everywhere. Meanwhile, arms manufacturer Norman Osborn (Willem Dafoe) transforms himself into the Green Goblin, begins to terrorize the city, and lays down the gauntlet to Spider-Man by abducting his beloved Mary Jane. 'Hulk' (2003), a special-effects (CGI), blockbuster adaptation of the Marvel comic character, is directed by Ang Lee ('Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'). Dr. Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) is working in the research department of the University of California when he is accidentally hit by one of his experimental rays. This turns him into a very large green monster which then goes on the rampage, destroying the lab and anything else that gets in its way. It transpires that Banner turns into this green hulk when he becomes angry. So when his despotic father (Nick Nolte) begins to use the rays to his own means, Banner's alter-ego has to go to the rescue of a fellow lab-mate, Betty Ross (Jennifer Connelly). However, Banner is kidnapped by Glenn Talbot (Joshua Lucas), a wheeler-dealer who recognises a money-making scheme and manages to push Banner too far. The green monster once again rears its ugly head, going on another rampage through the streets of San Francisco. Is there anyone who can tame this beast? 'The Mummy' (1999) is a swashbuckling Egyptian adventure. Brendan Fraser plays Rick O'Connell, an American who discovers Hamunaptra, the city of the dead. He is driven away by locals and arrested. Three years later, Englishman Jonathan (John Hannah) discovers an ancient artefact which he gives to his sister Evelyn (Rachel Weisz). In turn, she trades the artefact for Rick's release from prison and the trio set off for Hamunaptra, hoping to arrive there before Beni (Kevin J. O'Connor), Rick's crooked former associate. However Beni has already invoked a curse which frees Imhotep, a supernaturally-gifted mummy. He pursues the adventurers across the land, feeding upon the flesh of unfortunate explorers. He aims to sacrifice Evelyn, hoping to resurrect another evil mummy...
