Works great
After having a heron decide my small fish pond was his feeding ground, I had to quickly try to protect my little friends. Although after 3 deaths and 2 surviving members of the family living in fear (won't come to the surface to eat now), I at least have some comfort that they are safe. The Koi Kastle appeared to be well constructed and after a few months in the pond, has some overgrowth on it and being under the lilies, it looks about like it should belong in there. I won't really know until I clean the pond this fall or next spring how it holds up over the duration of seasons, although just watching it now, I don't suspect any issues. If something bad turns up, I'll update my post.I'd highly recommend. I survived 5 years without incident and never even thought about needing something like this. I'm not super attached to fish, although after training them to hand feed and watching them for 5 years, I only wished that I'd bought this before so I could have avoided the whole incident.

Worth every penny!
I recently purchased two of these Koi shelters after having an unknown animal clean out my Koi pond. This was my third Koi massacre, and I was heart broken! I got all new fish and I wanted to find some products that would offer them some protection. I have been very happy with these shelters. They are well made and larger then I had anticipated. They are barely visible in my pond. I have 11 Koi and one of these would have probably been sufficient, but I am glad I purchased two. Depending on the situation it gives the Koi options of where to go to hide and it gives me some peace of mind. I am also going to place a net over my pond. I think these things together will help keep the fish safe, or at least make it a lot more difficult for a predator to wipe out an entire pond. My only regret with this purchase is that I didn't make it sooner!

Good for smaller-to-medium goldfish
My outdoor smaller-to-medium goldfish use this now, but the larger goldfish and koi don't use it. The first time I put it in the pond, after 24 hours, the fish stayed huddled on the other side of the pond as if they were scared of it. I took it out, then re-introduced it a couple of weeks later and the fish didn't seem as scared of it. Now, 4 out of my 14 fish have spent time resting inside of it, sometimes 3 at a time. I had hoped my bigger fish would fit inside of it, but I guess it's just not big enough.

Perfect, but Overpriced
This is a great addition to my pond. The kastle is large enough that it comfortably fits all three of my rapidly-growing koi, and they likely won’t outgrow it. They spend their afternoons in its shade. Fortunately I haven’t had issues with predators visiting my pond, but I have no doubt that it will also be a good hiding spot if they need it.I cleaned it thoroughly before submerging it. It sinks to the bottom on its own, and stays in place.I’m taking away one star for the price. This could easily be a $20-$30 item instead of a $50 one.

The fish give it a 5 star rating!
After a close call with a Blue Heron, my fish needed a better cover in our pond. I found this "Kastle", ordered it, and when it arrived about 4 days later, I slipped it into the water so that it rested on the bottom. The fish, still freaked by their close call and the probable abduction of our big white fish, watched it land on the bottom and quickly swam into it. Now, it has attracted some sediment and is quite disguised from above, making it even better for hiding. They hide in it, peer out from it when we feed them and feel very secure.I'm happy with it. It was certainly less expensive than re-stacking the edge with stone, making a larger lip.

I also have a water scarecrow which I have found is the only thing that truly works but I like this for extra security
I got this as a backup to protect my koi from herons. I also have a water scarecrow which I have found is the only thing that truly works but I like this for extra security. The fish are traumatized when they see the heron so this gives them piece of mind. I have about 15 koi in assorted sizes and they can all squeeze into the castle when scared. I didn't want anything to even see them under it so I attached a piece of roll a rock on top of it and so it just looks like a rock tunnel on the bottom of the pond. Haven't lost a fish yet but as I said I also have the water scarecrow. I think if for some reason that wasn't working this castle would provide adequate protection.

Expensive but works
Might work a little too well…haven’t seen my fish much. They are always in it. But, I presume once it’s not a new toy anymore, they’ll start peeking out.Peace of mind knowing predators won’t find them.
