Really big hit with my puppy and persian!
I bought this because my puppy loves to run and I read these could be good to give them something to chase. (you forget how much energy puppies have until you get one - ha!) I also have 2 cats so I thought they might get some fun out of it too. I was put off by the price at first - comparatively speaking there are MUCH cheaper options out there. But after doing my homework I came to the conclusion that they're not made like this. For all intensive purposes - this is a real fishing rod and reel. The reel makes that ticking ratcheting sound when you wind it back up. And this thing is sturdy. Not the kind of thing you're going to fold in half and stick in a drawer or have the plastic pole break when they pull too hard. It's long too - this will show up at your door in a box as tall as you are and be stored propped up in a corner of the closet - only because if you leave it out, they'll keep trying to catch the toy! The fishing line has a little stretch/spring to it. I've seen reviews where people had a cat chew through it - so far no chew thru for me. But I do pull it right back once they catch it. Even so, if they did there's plenty of line in the reel to just tie it onto the toy again. And I believe they sell refills if you have the need.My puppy and my persian go NUTS for this thing. (the other cat is a watcher not a chaser) I have to be the one to call an end to playtime and demand they drink some water because neither one of them will stop. They'll both be standing there at full attention with one foot on go - tongues hanging out panting from running - ready to chase it again. They race and tumble over each other trying to be the one to get it first - they LOOOOVE this thing! Come running when I show them what I've got without fail. Got a cat that won't come out from under the bed? Offer them treaties but they recognize it as a trap? Well just drag this across the floor and they come FLYING out with legs scrambling in all direction trying to get traction. She goes from Nope...trap... trap... trap... OMG GET IT!!! It's hysterical. And I've spent far more on toys, climbers, condos, trees, etc. that were treated with great suspicion and wouldn't go near. This one is a winner and should hold up through as much playtime as they want.

Greatest Cat Toy I've Ever Played With!
Let me just say, this cat toy is very fun to play with. I've had 2 of these now for 2 months (I'll explain below), and can't believe at how much I still like playing with it! It allows you to play with extremely ferocious felines at a safe distance from claws, and you can practice getting the little mouse at the end into bowels or other objects for fun while your cat/kitten runs after it.Background:My girlfriend and I have 2 kittens (10 months now). They are the cutest thing ever when they're not really energetic, but currently that's only about 5% of the time. 95% of the time they are sprinting around, fighting each other, and causing havoc around town. We tried dozens of cat toys, but the main problem was none of them were long enough to escape the ferocious, backflip-jumping of our cats who love having their claws out when jumping near your leg/face/sensitive regions. We'd only stop playing with them once we couldn't stand the pain of claws jabbing into our skin, leaving our kittens begging for more. Why this thing is so Awesome:This fishing pole toy solved the problems of our cats jumping and hurting us. Now we can tire our kittens out without getting scratched! We also don't have to work as hard and tire ourselves out because we can just sit down and just flick our wrists, and watch our kittens sprint after the mouse at the end until they start panting.Makes our Kittens Tired:This is the easiest way for our kittens tired and satisfied with their lives. All other toys would tire us out before our kittens would show any sort of fatigue. This also really helps prevent them from fighting too much.Cons/Problems with Toy:When I first got this, I was about to give this a 2/3 star review. This thing is like a real fishing pole in the fact that it doesn't cast! The issue seems to be that the string, because it's stretchy, can't actually cast like a real fishing pole, and also the mouse isn't heavy enough. I was pretty pissed when I learned this and was about to take it back.I also broke this fishing pole's reel, and my first one doesn't click anymore (I was trying to get it to cast...). However, on their product page, they actually say that if you break the reel like how I did (By turning the buttons on the reel) just return it for a new one (Which is really awesome that they advertise that). So when you get yours, Don't Turn The Buttons On The Reel! They are set to the right point.Because of the second point, I bought a new one and was about to take the first one back. Why I didn't take the First One Back:I really like the clicking on the fishing reel, but it can be annoying when my girlfriend is trying to sleep. So I just kept both of the fishing poles and switch off using them.Another Problem:The tip of the reel broke on my first one, but this actual has made it better because it makes it easier to simulate casting with the fishing pole (It's made the string go out easier). Conclusion:If you have a Cat or Kitten who has too much energy, Get This! It's one of the best investments I've made with my Kittens, especially because it makes it fun to play with them!
